The aim of this service is to analyse the causes that have led to the failure of a fibre-reinforced plastic (FRP) part in industrial installations and sewage networks.
The analysis is carried out by means of a thorough examination of the damaged area of the part, taking an undamaged section or equivalent laminates as a reference. The stages generally carried out are:
• Study of the specifications required of the part by the customer and/or the applicable design or product standards.
• Visual and microscopic analysis of the intact and damaged areas: evaluation by optical microscopy and SEM.
• Detection of traces of components in the section of the part: corrosive substances, foreign elements…
• Physical and mechanical characterisation of the material in the intact and damaged area.
• Review of the design of the part in accordance with the applicable regulations.
Based on the findings obtained from the analysis and characterisation, the failure mechanism and its possible causes will be established, taking into account the operating conditions to which the part has been subjected.
