Ecodesign

Identify all environmental aspects surrounding the product throughout its life cycle, and subsequently quantify and assess their environmental implications, identify priorities and establish actions in the design phase of the product or service that lead to improved environmental performance and sustainability. Some of the environmental improvement strategies that can be adopted in eco-design are:

  • Reducing material consumption (dematerialisation, miniaturisation, multifunctionality, increased efficiency, recycled materials, etc.)
  • Reducing energy consumption in production and in the use phase
  • Reducing the amount of hazardous materials throughout the life cycle
  • Extending the useful life of the product
  • Design for Repairability
  • Design for Recycling (DfR)
  • Design for Disassembly (DfD)
  • Design for Reuse
  • Design for Circularity
  • Safe by design
