Aerobic biodegradability, disintegrability and dishwasher cycle resistance of bioplastic products

In the development of compounds or products designed to be biodegradable at their end of life, it is important to characterise the influence of new components, additives or increased thicknesses on the final biodegradability in different environments during their development.

In the development of compounds or products designed to be biodegradable at their end of life, it is important to characterise during their development, the influence of new components, additives or increased thicknesses on the final biodegradability in different environments. In addition, in the case of new biodegradable packaging or biodegradable food packaging, the resistance to dishwasher cycles determines its ability to be considered as reusable.

GAIKER provides a screening characterisation service to efficiently determine the following:

  • Aerobic biodegradability under composting conditions as per ISO 17855.
  • Disintegrability of materials under aerobic composting conditions (at temperature /58 ºC) and mesophilic incubation as per ISO 20200
  • Determination of the degradation rate and degree of disintegrability of plastics in simulated marine environments in laboratory as per ISO 23832.
  • Validation for repeated use in dishwashers of reusable food packaging and articles made of bio-based or compostable composites as per UNE EN 128175-1 and 2. The monitoring is complemented by mechanical, colour or food contact suitability tests in selected wash cycles.
