Circularity Assessment. Eco-design for circularity

From a materials perspective, one measure of the circularity of a product is the Material Circularity Indicator (MCI) defined by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation. The MCI represents the contribution of a product to the circular economy by considering the amount of recycled or reused raw materials used in its production, the function and lifetime of the product during its use and the ease of its reusability or recyclability when it reaches its end of life. The life cycle approach applied in the assessment of the MCI makes it a suitable indicator for any company wishing to understand its contribution to the circular economy and to define improvement strategies to increase this contribution over time.
