Food safety and nutrition

The European Commission seeks to ensure a high level of food quality and safety in the EU through the farm-to-table strategy. The implementation of this integrated food safety policy aims to ensure effective control and compliance with EU rules on food safety and quality, animal health, animal welfare, animal nutrition and plant health.

At GAIKER, we assess the nutritional quality and health benefits of alternative food sources and new foods, and apply innovative approaches based on 2D and 3D human and non-human in vitro models for food safety assessment.

valuewaste2

The VALUEWASTE project is a holistic approach to recycling municipal biowaste to produce high-value bio-based products, and is the first complete solution for fully recovering organic waste that can be replicated across Europe.
Our role in the project is linked to providing a toxicological and functional evaluation of new products and assessing their safety through in vitro tests, so as to comply with the corresponding international legislation (REACH, food regulations, etc.).

This project received funding from the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 research and development programme under contract number 818312
