Currently, use of the textile fraction from tyre recycling is complicated due to the difficulty of obtaining clean material. Therefore, the challenge initially lies in separating the different materials that make up the waste for the subsequent recovery of the textile fraction and the remains of rubber particles through chemical recycling. This results in high value-added products that can be synthesised, such as PET fibres, which are reintroduced into the value chain.
Various processes for separating the materials of interest that make up the waste with a view to their recovery were evaluated, and at the same time, conditioning stages were implemented for their suitability for the recycling treatments performed. The textile fraction was chemically recycled by depolymerisation to obtain monomers for further synthesis into new PET fibres. In this way, the materials of interest are recovered so landfill is avoided and they can be reincorporated into the value chain.
"The team was ever willing to adapt to changes and solve problems, which enabled the established objectives to be successfully fulfilled. The creativity and originality in the performance of the tasks were also outstanding. Overall, it was a highly successful project that exceeded expectations in terms of results and process, due to its innovative approach and great deal of flexibility."
