Indumetal Recycling is a pioneer and a major player in the recycling of electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) and complex scrap in Europe.
Seeking alternatives for the treatment of batteries for small electrical and electronic equipment (SEEE) by means of mechanical processes that enable a Black Mass to be obtained that meets market requirements. It focuses on the task of battery deactivation and the study of alternatives for obtaining Black Mass and the subsequent recovery of the active material.
A comparative analysis of different procedures for the deactivation of SEEE batteries was carried out in order to find the most suitable method for their pre-treatment. A literature review of industrial LIB recycling processes in Europe, North America and Asia was also carried out. Several European companies that commercialise their Li-ion battery recycling processes and offer the possibility to perform tests to obtain Black Mass at their plants were also contacted.
