Sustainability Analysis

R&D

GAIKER’s research and technological activity in sustainability assessment covers the environmental, social and economic perspectives of technologies, processes, products and services. In-depth knowledge of sustainability assessment methodologies and extensive experience in fields, such as end-of-life treatment processes, development of new materials, etc. strengthens GAIKER’s position as a reference in life cycle assessment (LCA), covering environmental, social (SLCA) and economic (LCC) perspectives.

Assessment studies are used to supervise impacts and support product re-design (eco-design), provide indicators (e.g. carbon footprint, environmental footprint, circularity index) or develop customised assessment tools.

Our lines of work are:

  • Technical, environmental, economic and social assessment of materials, operations, processes and products
    • LCA (Life Cycle Assessment), LCC, SLCA
    • Sustainability Assessment (LCSA)
    • Recyclability analysis
    • Environmental footprint
    • Carbon footprint, water footprint
    • Environmental Product Declaration
    • Eco-labels
  • Product design and improvement
    • Eco-design (for circularity, recycling, disassembly, etc.)
  • Industrial ecology
    • Industrial symbiosis
    • Sustainable industrial/technology parks
  • Expert environmental diagnosis
    • Technology benchmarking
  • Prospective studies

Major Projects

nanotecnológicos

The main aims of this project are based around identifying and defining the legislative framework, recommendations and guidelines for treating different effluents and waste containing nanomaterials, researching new treatment processes adapted to emerging solid and liquid waste arising from manufacturing nanocomposites, and safe by design, eco-design, LCA.

C-SERVEES

The main aims of the project are based on developing circular economy business models for the E&E sector, ICT tools for two-way communication and secure information exchange, implementing the new circular economy business models, providing key tools to boost replicability and transferability, and maximising the impact of innovation.

prediagnostico

The main objectives of the project were to identify potential eco-design measures to reduce plastics in the primary packaging of products on display in shops, reduce the amount of materials in the primary packaging of their products on display, reduce the consumption of primary plastics, reduce the generation of waste and increase sustainability.
